Example: Ms. Shilale wears a best friend ring on her index finger. It is a symbol of friendship between my cousin Antonia. As you can see, a ring circles my finger symbolizing that it never stops... just like my friendship.

This week we are wrapping up our fantasy unit. Homework this week will be a little different, and all of our effort is going towards Long Composition Writing.

Today during class we are going to practice editing and revising.
Revising Strategies:
1. "Tap in" to make sure your story makes sense
2. Circle all punctuation marks " " ? ! , ' .
3. Circle all misspelled words and look them up in the dictionary
4. Replace boring words with spicy words :)
5. "Tap in" again to make sure your story makes sense and flows

MUST HAVE: Capital letters must be used in the beginning of your sentences and for all proper nouns.

Tuesday night: Final draft of step 1 and step 2

Wednesday night: Final draft of step 3 and step 4

Thursday night: Final draft of step 5 and complete book cover. Practice reading your final draft.

Please read for 20 minutes and respond. If you have reached the conflict or climax please record the details in your journal to help you better prepare for your test on Thursday.

Also, write the first FIVE words of your spelling list 5 times each in your reading journal.
Fantasy, Conflict, Climax, Setting, Character. The Spell-a-thon Fundraiser Test will be held on Thursday as well.

Review the open response format daily to help prepare for the open response question that will be given on Thursday. Practice making the graphic organizer at home, and practice writing open responses to help you study.

HINT HINT HINT: The open response question will be about personality traits, therefore it would be a great idea to practice the format using the main character from your homework book.

Please reread your fantasy story for homework tonight. Pencil in details that truly explain:
1. The main characters (What they look like, personality)
2. The setting of your fantasy world (use descriptive language... colors, smells, scenery,weather, etc)
3. The conflict (Why is your bad guy so bad? What is his or her background story on why he/she is so angry? Make sure you develop a creative idea)
4. The climax (How is your problem solved? Did you explain the climax set by step? Is it full of action? Is your climax creative?)
5. The resolution (How did it all end? How do you find your wardrobe to go back to real life?)

Please spend 30 minutes adding details and descriptive words. Remember, there is no such thing as "I'm done". You can always add details to make it better!

Step 2: Setting (What does your fantasy world look like? Who did you meet?)
Step 3: Conflict (What is the major problem? What is the villain trying to do to your fantasy world?)
Step 4: Climax (Who solves the problem? HOW? Make it exciting!)
Step 5: Ending (How do you go back to your real world? Do you stay? Is it happy? Sad?)

Your goal is to make each step one notebook page. Be descriptive and have fun with your stories!

Geography Test 1 Study Guide


Geography Test 1

1.   Geography: The study of the Earth, how it is shaped, and how humans use the land’s natural resources
2.   Geologist: A man or woman who studies the Earth and what is it made of
3.   Theory on how the Earth was made:
1. Earth once started as a little piece of space dust
2. Space dust clumped to a hard rock
3. Asteroids collided into Earth making it bigger and bigger
4. The asteroids eventually turned Earth into an ocean of lava
5. Overtime, the Earth cooled and the layers of the Earth formed
6. The hot iron core pushed up the continents
7. Volcanoes formed on Earth and their chemicals formed our atmosphere. Hydrogen and oxygen mixed in the air to form rain. Eventually, this rain formed our oceans
4. Pangaea All of our seven continents were once one large landmass
5. Present Day Continents: The Earth’s core and mantle have pushed our continents to where they are today.
6. Therefore, our Earth is constantly moving and changing!
7. Hot Spots change our Earth by having volcanoes erupt. Luckily, one hot spot made Hawaii!
8. Plate Movement changes our Earth because Earth plates are either moving closer or further apart
9. Tsunami's change our Earth by creating huge cracks in the Earth’s oceans forming a deadly wave
10. The Ring of Fire changes our Earth by having volcanoes erupt along the coasts of the Pacific Ocean
11. On Earth we have Seven Continents
12. On Earth we have Seven Major Oceans
